They must devote a sufficient amount of time to preparing for the unified state exam for free.

It is the USE scores (or entrance examinations conducted by the university) in the subjects of the chosen specialty that are the basis for admission to any Russian university. What a shame when you are a few points short of your goal!

Individual achievements upon admission will not replace exam results, but can give additional points and become decisive for admission to study at a university on a budgetary basis, so every applicant should know about them in advance.

The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation gives the right to higher educational institutions to award, in addition to the results of the Unified State Exam, an applicant during the competition a total of up to 10 points for his individual achievements in the field of education, sports and social activities.

They give an advantage in case of equality of competition points.

Each university independently determines its policy for taking into account the personal achievements of an applicant, and it is obliged to inform about this in advance.

Therefore, an interested graduate should check with the specific higher education institution to which he plans to apply for information about the number of additional points.

For some achievements, the applicant receives additional points

When applying for training, the following achievements of the applicant are usually taken into account:

  1. Sports success: gold, silver or bronze “Ready for Labor and Defense” (GTO) badge, status of European champion, champion or prize-winner of the Olympic, Paralympic and Deaflympic Games.
  2. Certificate of secondary general education with honors. Before the introduction of the unified state exam, a gold medal opened the way for a graduate to enter all universities in the country. Now the situation has changed. On the other hand, this is good, since the awarding of medals is somewhat subjective, and talented students were not always able to continue their education for free. At the moment, a certificate with honors together with a medal “For special achievements in learning” can only give additional points. Many parents and schoolchildren are wondering how to get a gold or silver school medal. Since 2014, the silver medal has not been awarded! To receive the award that many excellent students dream of from the first grade, you need to try hard and not get a single six-month and final four for grades 10 and 11.
  3. Secondary professional education diploma with honors. A diploma with honors after graduating from college or technical school gives no less advantages than a school certificate. Usually both documents are equal and give the same number of points.
  4. Volunteer activities. You must present a volunteer book or certificate of participation in events. Important: no more than four years should pass from the end of volunteer activity to the end of accepting documents.
  5. Success in Olympiads, which are included in the list compiled by the university. You can read more about the benefits of the winners of the Olympiads below.
  6. Availability of patents for inventions. The practice of registering patents is not common, and only the most brilliant inventors achieve such success at such a young age.
  7. Final essay. The assessment system for the final essay is too lenient, and many do not attach much importance to it, hoping to get a pass. The grade on this paper doesn't tell the admissions committee anything, so they review the essay again and decide on how to award points for it.

There is no need to present the text; all data is scanned and stored in the database in the same way as works.

How many points are awarded?

As a rule, a larger number of points (5-10) are awarded for a certificate or diploma with honors. But there are also exceptions, depending on the specifics of the educational process. Points for various achievements are summed up, but in the end there should be no more than 10.

What documents are needed

An applicant can count on additional points upon admission only if they present the necessary documents: diplomas, references, certificates.

Excellent graduation from a general education institution must be confirmed not with a medal, but with a certificate with the entry “with honors.”

Education in Russia has undergone significant changes recently.

More recently, all graduates took exams both at the school and at the institute.

Since 2001, the process of introducing a unified state exam into the Russian education system began, which still causes a lot of criticism.

The Unified State Exam has now become an integral part of the life of an eleventh-grader in our country, so it is difficult to imagine entering a university without passing it.

But there are exceptions:

  1. Foreign citizens. Instead of the Unified State Exam, which is mandatory for all 11th grade graduates of Russian schools, foreigners take entrance tests organized by the university. I can't say it's better this way. Still, it is easier to prepare for the Unified State Exam, since all blocks of tasks are publicly available, and a prepared student will see practically nothing new in the KIMs.
  2. People with disabilities. They also have the right to enroll on the basis of entrance exams according to the quota established by the state.
  3. Transfer students from other universities also have the right to enroll without the Unified State Exam, but this depends on the specific institution.
  4. Applicants wishing to obtain a second higher education. Unfortunately, a second higher education in the Russian Federation is not free if a citizen has already received a complete non-military education. The exception is bachelors who can continue their studies in a master's program.
  5. Winners and prize-winners of All-Russian level Olympiads or Olympiads of a specific university.

The latter option is very attractive to talented schoolchildren. Particularly gifted ones have the right to enter without competition or be equated with applicants who scored 100 points on the Unified State Exam in the subject of the Olympiad.

Many universities hold their own Olympiads

This capability is available to:

  • winners and prize-winners of the final stage of the All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren;
  • members of the Russian and Ukrainian national teams participating in international Olympiads;
  • winners and prize-winners of the fourth All-Ukrainian student Olympiad.

These achievements are taken into account in any higher educational institution in the country. Also, some universities have the right to organize their own Olympiads and competitions.

Which Olympiads should I take part in to achieve success?

Today there are so many Olympiads that a curious student does not know where to show himself and wonders which one will be more significant in his portfolio.

At first, it is difficult to determine which event will be more useful in the future.

So which Olympiads are best to participate in?

There are three types of intellectual competitions:

  1. All-Russian Olympiad for schoolchildren. Almost every excellent student is familiar with it. The organizer of the VOSH is the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, which allows it to be the most prestigious in our country. The VOSH is held in four stages, a victory or a medal in the last one will, perhaps, be the beginning of the young genius’s ascent to the top of the professional Olympus. In addition to benefits, the student is guaranteed to receive invaluable experience and unforgettable participation in the All-Russian stage, as well as the opportunity to visit other major cities of their country.
  2. Olympiads held by universities. There are many of them. Some are confirmed by the Ministry of Education and Science and are included in the “List of Olympiads for schoolchildren”. There are 97 of them in the 2017-2018 academic year. The full list can be found here: http://publication.pravo.gov.ru/Document/View/0001201709260041?index=94&rangeSize=1
    Winning or winning a prize in the Olympiads included in this list provides benefits for admission not only to the organizer’s university.
  3. Olympiads of various charitable foundations and organizations. They do not help with admission, since their focus is on identifying and motivating gifted children. The winner can receive a cash prize or other valuable prize, gain experience, develop their skills and believe in themselves.

Participation in any intellectual event is extremely useful for an emerging specialist. The main thing is that he does not lose faith in himself after failures. It is more difficult to win the last stage of the VOS than in other Olympiads, but the latter deserve no less attention.

In addition to the undeniable advantages of participation, success in this direction will help the student to continue his education on a budgetary basis.

Just keep in mind that you need to confirm your victory by scoring at least 75 points in the relevant subject on the Unified State Examination. But this is unlikely to be a big problem for someone who has coped with a more difficult task.

Let's summarize. There is no need to skimp on preparing for the Unified State Exam if you want to get in without any problems. Successfully passing this test is not an impossible task: the prototypes of the tasks are known in advance, and you can always prepare for them.

And individual achievements can determine the outcome at the decisive moment in your favor!

In this video you will learn about the individual achievements of schoolchildren:

Each university sets unique passing scores for admission. They depend on the Unified State Exam results with which applicants were admitted last year. It happens that the minimum score of the last applicant for three exams is more than 300. This happened due to additional points awarded for individual achievements. Each university has its own accrual system. You can view it on the institution’s website.

In this material we have collected information about everything for which you can get extra points.

Each university has its own system of rewarding talented applicants

1. Medal

If you are an excellent student awarded, you can count on additional points upon admission. A silver medal provides the same benefits. For example, in 2018, for having a gold or silver medal, the maximum 10 points will be given by the most prestigious universities in the country: and

2. GTO

“Ready for work and defense” is the name of the program for passing physical standards. To receive bonuses upon admission, you must successfully complete all tests and receive a gold insignia. For such an achievement, universities are ready to add up to 5 points.

3. Special sporting achievements

The successes of applicants who defended the honor of the country at international sporting competitions are highly appreciated. Champions of the Olympic, Paralympic, Deaflympic Games and European Championships can count on 10 additional points when entering any university.

Universities award bonuses for prestigious sports awards

4. Olympics

Be careful here. Not every Olympiad will bring you the coveted bonuses. It all depends on its level, profile and priority for the university. The most prestigious are the 1st level Olympiads. Prizewinners and winners are enrolled in them without entrance examinations. All information about the Olympiads can be found on the website of the Ministry of Education and Science.

5. Final essay

Yes, yes, the compulsory essay on literature, which is written by all graduating students, can also bring you extra points. There is no need to print out the essay, just notify the admissions committee that you want to use it to award points. The essay will be found in the database, checked again and given points, no more than 10.

The December essay will help you get the points you need.

6. Volunteer activities

Your good deeds may also be taken into account when applying. Of course, simply getting grandma across the road or saving a kitten in this case is not enough. Volunteer activities must be documented (show volunteer book). No more than 4 years must pass from the date of its completion. Typically, 1-2 points are awarded for participation in charitable projects. But not all universities do this.

7. Competitions

They take into account the participation of applicants in creative and intellectual competitions that are aimed at identifying outstanding abilities. Basically, bonuses are awarded for prizes in competitions close to the profile of the university. For example, MEPhI adds 3 points to the winners of the “Practice on Models” competition and gives 3-4 points to the winners of the open competition “Aerobatics” in the areas of physics, mathematics and information technology. The national championship in professional skills among disabled people and persons with disabilities “Abilimpix” also applies to this point.

How many points do major universities in the country give for individual achievements?

The possibility of entering a university almost entirely depends on the points earned on the Unified State Exam. The number of budget places in universities is decreasing from year to year, and the number of applicants, on the contrary, is increasing... in conditions of tough competition, every point upon admission can be decisive. How can you increase your chances and get additional points for the Unified State Exam? There are several ways. Let's look at them

Why are additional points awarded for the Unified State Exam upon admission?

In universities, points for individual achievements of students are added to the Unified State Examination scores if there is documentary evidence. How many additional points to award for certain achievements and regalia is decided by higher education institutions themselves. For now, the maximum you can get is 10 points.

What individual achievements promise additional points when entering a university in 2020?

1. Medal

At the moment, most universities add 3-4 points to holders of the medal “For exceptional academic achievements” and the “red” certificate. However, there are exceptions: for example, “Baumanka” gives 10 at once.

2. Final essay – admission to the Unified State Exam

The applicant should specifically inform the admissions committee that he plans to use the results of this required graduate work to earn additional credits. You should be prepared for your work to be double-checked. You can score 10 points, but universities rarely give you this opportunity. Usually the maximum you can get is up to 5 points - and for studying both in the humanities and in another specialty.

3. TRP badge

Having successfully passed all the tests in the “Ready for Labor and Defense” physical training program, you can earn an average of up to 5 additional points to your Unified State Examination points and be awarded a badge of honor. True, they say that soon this bonus will become available only to those entering the faculties of physical education.

To pass the GTO standards, you need to register on the program website, submit an application and provide a scan of your passport and a medical certificate. The GTO is taken on a voluntary basis at testing centers - as a rule, these are large sports complexes, swimming pools, and shooting ranges. The list of sports exercises that are offered to participants includes running, pulling up, swimming, throwing a ball, skiing, and so on. The standards depend on the age of the participant. Children are allowed to take the GTO from 6 years of age.

4. Sports achievements

This does not mean, of course, an “A” in physical education, but achievements at the federal and even world level. Victory at the Olympic, Paralympic, and Deaflympic Games will undoubtedly ensure admission to a specialized university without exams, and to a non-core university with an “extra” of 10 points. Universities also take into account the status of the champion at the World and European Championships in sports included in the programs of the Olympic Games.

5. Intellectual and creative competitions, Olympiads

For success, you can receive additional points for the Unified State Exam (up to 10) and even the opportunity to enter a university without exams. Experts advise paying attention to the profile and level of the Olympiad: the first level is the most prestigious, the winner or runner-up does not require entrance tests at all. You can read more about bonuses based on the results of the Olympiads on the website of the Ministry of Education and Science.

In addition, you should not miss creative competitions at universities in your future specialty. As a rule, universities in one way or another make it easier for distinguished students to enroll.

6. Volunteering

This achievement is not yet taken into account by all Russian universities. Moreover, an applicant’s volunteer work only over the last four years and only if he has a volunteer book is considered an individual achievement. You can only get a couple of points. However, sometimes even one extra point can decide the fate of an applicant.

7. Successful passing of the pre-professional exam (for Muscovites)

The pre-professional exam, a method of independently assessing the quality of education, was tested only a couple of years ago. Students in specialized classes are allowed to participate. It takes place upon completion of studies with the participation of universities of the relevant profile.

So far, such exams have been introduced only in the capital; they should come to the regions in the coming years. Registration for pre-professional exams for 11th graders will open until January 2020. Children will take the theoretical part (test work on a computer) at the Moscow Center for Quality Education, and the practical part - at the universities themselves. You can earn up to 10 additional points upon admission. In some cases, passing a pre-professional exam with flying colors promises free admission to a university.

What can change?

The State Duma is considering a bill to increase the minimum number of additional points for the Unified State Exam for gold medal holders to 11 and higher (at the same time, gold medalists can receive additional points for other achievements). In addition, they want to give the opportunity to receive points for the Unified State Exam to graduates of art and music schools who are planning to enroll in specialized departments. Also in November 2019, the Ministry of Culture recommended the country’s universities to count additional points to graduates who showed good results in the “Victory Dictation” campaign. Participants had to answer 20 questions on the topic in 45 minutes (several answer options were offered). The action, which they want to make annual, first took place in May and affected 85 regions of the Russian Federation and 23 states.

For many applicants, individual achievements upon entering a university become a chance for free education. Today we will analyze the basic rules according to which higher education institutions admit freshmen. So, let's look at this issue in more detail.

How to prove your achievements

There is a certain procedure for taking into account the individual achievements of applicants, according to which all universities and institutes in our country operate. Applicants can count on additional points if they provide documentary evidence in the form of diplomas, references, and certificates.

The admission rules assume that, if other criteria are equal, additional points are awarded to those applicants who have their own achievements. They are summed up with the achievements that were demonstrated by high school students at the unified state exam.

Admission to Bachelor's Degree

Individual achievements when entering a university for undergraduate programs are taken into account in the following areas:

  • status of prize-winner or champion of the world, Europe in sports disciplines, certificate of passing the GTO standards, certificates of the established form;
  • certificate of completion of secondary general education with honors (gold or silver medal);
  • diploma of professional education with honors;
  • volunteer (volunteer) activities;
  • diploma of the absolute winner of certain olympiads, creative competitions, conferences, sporting events that are held;
  • grade for the final essay, which is a condition for the graduate’s admission to take the Unified State Exam under the general secondary education program.

Additional points for individual achievements when enrolling in undergraduate programs cannot exceed a total of 10. Domestic academies and universities can independently change individual achievements when entering a university, taking into account the specifics of the educational process.

Olympiads and intellectual competitions

Depending on the field of study, universities and institutes, at their discretion, count individual achievements when entering a university. For example, when applying to ITMO University in St. Petersburg, applicants are counted for the following achievements:

  • points for sporting achievements are awarded for having a gold GTO badge;
    a special certificate (with honors) of completion of secondary general education;
  • for the status of champion or prize-winner of various sports games, European champion, world championship;
  • for maintaining a systematic one (subject to the provision of a volunteer book of the established form);
  • for receiving a “pass” on the final school essay in the 11th grade of a comprehensive school;
  • for diplomas of All-Russian subject Olympiads, certificates of merit and diplomas of the All-Russian level;
  • for a diploma of a prize-winner or winner of project sessions conducted by the Sirius Educational Center;

  • for a diploma of the winner or prize-winner of a multidisciplinary Olympiad at ITMO University in mathematics, social studies, Russian or foreign languages, physics, chemistry;
  • for a diploma of the winner or prize-winner of the international conference “World of Science. Nanotechnology";
  • for winning the school section of the Congress of Young Scientists, held by ITMO University;
  • for a diploma of a prize-winner or winner of the competition "ITMOgrad", "Golden Thousand of the World";
  • for providing a portfolio of achievements;
  • for a certificate of prize-winner or winner of the International Marketing Competition “BigGame by Marketoruim. Junior section."

Taking into account individual achievements when entering universities is regulated by the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation of 2014. According to the numerous changes that were issued in April 2015 by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, any higher educational institution has the legal right to change the procedure for recording the personal achievements of applicants.

Informing about taking into account additional achievements of applicants

The admission rules oblige each secondary and higher education institution to inform applicants in advance about the number of points they can receive for personal achievements. Such information allows high school students to calculate in advance their chances of being admitted to a university (academy) in their chosen field of study.

Number of points awarded

We looked at what individual achievements are taken into account in universities when applicants submit documents for admission. Now let's look at the maximum number of points that applicants can count on.

According to the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation, the total number of points for individual achievements should not exceed ten points. In addition, up to 10 points can be obtained for high-quality completion of the final essay in the eleventh grade. Documents confirming individual achievements must be submitted along with the package of documents. Representatives of the admissions committee carefully study all the diplomas and certificates that the applicant brings, sum up the points, and enter them into the final protocol.

Documents for confirmation

This year, graduates of general education institutions had the opportunity to add at least ten points to the results demonstrated in the final exams. This significantly increased the children’s chances of getting into the higher educational institutions of their choice. Many of them tried to grab every opportunity to make their dream come true.

Compared to last year, the number of points for creative, intellectual and sports individual achievements was reduced from 20 to 10. This step was motivated by representatives of the Ministry of Education by the fact that in order to receive additional points, high school students spend too much of their free time, completely forgetting about full preparation for unified state exam.

Ways to get additional bonuses

Students in grades 10-11 try to use every possible chance to enter the university or academy of their choice after graduating from school. For example, you can take part in one of the subject Olympiads, the list of which is approved annually by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation. For children studying in the eleventh grade, participation in intellectual and creative competitions, sports competitions, and physical education events will be useful and interesting. In this case, only those victories of the graduate that were achieved in 11th grade are taken into account. If a teenager has successfully participated in several subject Olympiads at once, the one that is the most “significant” in terms of level is selected to award additional points.

In order for an applicant to have an equal number of points to rise in the ranking list, a gold or silver medal will help him. For example, for those guys who have chosen sports educational institutions for their subsequent education, having a gold GTO badge will be a great bonus.

Often these few points, which can be earned while still at school, will be a “lifesaver” for enrollment in a prestigious university on a budget basis. Universities and academies make their own decisions about for what achievements and in what quantity to add additional points to applicants.

Useful facts

For example, MIPT included in the list documents confirming the applicant’s graduation from an art school or music school. Depending on the university, you can expect to receive a different number of points for the same achievements. The reason for such discrepancies is in the exclusive right that the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation vested in domestic universities and academies by order. Universities are not required to add any additional points for the individual achievements of their potential students.
